My instinct to curate a well-coordinated palette is a strong one. Whether of color or type or texture or something else, when I'm planning a mosaic I'm always searching for correlations and conversations between materials. It's a good instinct, but I have to guard against overcurating and obliterating incongruity. In works like this I'm teaching myself to lean into cacophony to both create harmony and celebrate the instructive discomfort of dissonance.
